Biography – João Guilherme A. Akayama

João Guilherme A. Akayama is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist — a true artist of our times.
Born in São Paulo and raised in Campo Grande, he embodies the perfect blend of Brazilian soul and Japanese spirit — a harmony between emotion and discipline, passion and purpose.

His musical journey began early. As a child, João was captivated by the voices of Jair Rodrigues, Martinho da Vila, The Beatles, Rita Lee, Cazuza, Raul Seixas, and Legião Urbana. Those timeless influences shaped his creative DNA and inspired his distinctive Pop Rock style — one that blends sincerity, rhythm, and reflection.

At the age of 13, João entered the Salesian Seminary of Araçatuba (São Paulo), where music became his spiritual language. He learned to play guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and percussion, and began composing songs that expressed both his search for truth and his faith in life.

By 18, he moved to Japan, where he formed his first band, Radioativa, in 1999 — following his high school project, Golden Boy’s (1994).
After returning to Brazil and building a successful career as an entrepreneur and creative leader, João once again felt the irresistible call of music.

In 2019, he founded a new musical project in Japan — the band Shoiwa — a symbol of rebirth, energy, and artistic freedom.
Shoiwa marked the return of his live performances and the fire of connection with audiences, reigniting his mission to inspire through sound, emotion, and authenticity.

Throughout his musical journey in Japan, João has performed at major cultural events such as Brazilian Day in Gunma-ken and Tochigi-ken, as well as at Brazilian Car & Bike Relic Meetings and Motorcycle Club Gatherings.
These performances deepened his connection with the vibrant Brazilian community abroad, spreading his message of love, faith, and freedom to audiences of all ages.

João holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Anhanguera University), an MBA in Art Direction & Advertising (UniDomBosco), and a degree in Philosophy.
He is also a certified Personal and Professional Coach, Leader Coach, NLP Practitioner, and Behavioral Analyst — a rare fusion of artist, philosopher, and leader.

Every song João creates carries a message — of freedom, resilience, love, and faith.
His Pop Rock is not just music; it’s a reflection of life’s beauty and struggle, a bridge between heart and reason, Brazil and Japan, dream and destiny.
